Wellness as a component of job satisfaction may influence work-life balance. Evidence suggests that Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are prone to have a higher incidence of stress and occupational burnout when compared to other healthcare professions (Grosso and Boyd, 2019). Such burnout can be a result of decreased job satisfaction and increased CRNA job turnover (Mahoney et al, 2020). The understanding of CRNA wellness may influence three concepts: job turnover, burnout, and job satisfaction. (Mahoney et al., 2020).

The purpose of the Yorkman Wellnes Model project is to create a web-based wellness and job satisfaction model for CRNAs working in an anesthesia care team (ACT) setting. Job satisfaction, as a component of the wellness of CRNAs working in an ACT will be integrated into the Yorkman Wellness Model (YWM). The focus of the YWM will be the wellness of ACT CRNAs as a component of their job satisfaction. The expected outcome of this model is to provide organizations with a means to increase the job satisfaction of CRNAs, while reducing both CRNA burnout and CRNA job turnover.

"The Yorkman Wellness Model has been a life saver. It provides the resources I need to deal with the stress of working as a CRNA in an Anesthesia Care Team."

Hi, I’m Shannon Segres Yorkman, MS, MSN, CRNA.

I have worked as a CRNA in an anesthesia care team for almost eleven years. I understand the challenges and constant vigilance and reprioritizations that this role requires. The Yorkman Wellness Model provides the attention to wellness needed for this most specialized group of anesthesia providers.
